We’re interpreting this as a good thing. Zimbabwe’s Chikurubi prison has been trying to recruit an executioner for five years, and has become so desperate its turned to the newspapers to help. “The job demands strength and unwavering focus. It is not for the faint-hearted,” remarked the state-run Daily News.
A death sentence is just not quite as scary if there’s no one to carry it out. Then again, I’m not sure I’d want to spend the extra time in Chikurubi, a notoriously horrible place. Either way, any circumstance which prevents Robert Mugabe from killing people has got to be a good thing.
